Mini Baja - Unique...Compact...Rugged > This is xtreme engineering

mini bajaThe car for Indian motorsports - This is what DCE XTREME is all about. XTREME Engineering started way back in 2003 with Asia’s first student Baja buggy for the Sasol Baja South Africa Challenge. Since then, DCE XTREME has been a pioneer in this field reaching newer heights every year be it at South Africa, USA and now even in India, winning accolades in various fields such as Best Design, Best Cost Report, and of course, the main event... the race itself! This year too, DCE outshone all the other teams from Asia in the Sasol Baja South Africa 2008 Challenge in October, achieving an overall 14th position in the competition.

Our winning streak continued on in the 2009 event in India at Pithampur, MP where DCE secured 7th position in the race and a 10th overall position. The competition was fierce considering the fact that there were competitive teams from the IITs, BITS Pilani as well as NSIT but we stood true to everyone’s expectations and were above them all! The car’s compact chassis along with its revolutionary steering design was well appreciated by all spectators, judges and teams alike. As the team looks on ahead to the next level, Baja Asia 2010, it is determined to prove itself yet again at the international stage.

Engineers 'BET' on a movie

Capital punishment versus life imprisonment, the war has commenced and is gradually gathering steam. Every nascent day summons along with itself a phalanx of wide-eyed, prying people who want the arcane plot to unfold before them. The throng teems with blokes having motley of opinions. While some sympathize with the young, daring lawyer, there are others who support the speculations of the haughty and conceited man who has challenged the lawyer to substantiate his stand. There are still others who are nonplussed about the situation and vacillate from one side to the other. But in the midst of the bedlam lies in the making, a magnificent montage which will showcase the lives of two disparate people, tethered to each other by a 'bet', in search of an answer.

We are siring the fictitious characters to life in our movie. But a movie is a figment of imagination without real life actors and antagonists, isn't it? So we are currently on an expedition to discover talented people who can enact the 'bet'. We have come across the cranky and the crafty, the scrawny and the savant, the truants and of course the 'tongue in cheek-s'! We have scrutinized people who can mimic Bachhan, vilify Sunil Shetty or even disgrace Dharmendar! We have discovered people who can go tipsy like the Devdas and people who can outclass Michael Jackson. We have pursued people to emulate monkeys and go bananas for creating embarrassing situations! In the process we also accosted some recalcitrant chaps who were loitering around and had nothing else to do.
But everyone has struck a chord in terms of the verve and energy level which has been nothing short of exhilarating! Engineers can make a movie….. I guess!
So guys enact and upload your videos at groups.ibibo.com/iactor and help us carry out our venture.

Vvrrrroooooommm... - Heritage Speed

vroomOne of the most exciting pursuits mankind has tread on is speed…or at least this is what the defianz team thinks. In other words this team is all for hard-core car enthusiasts. Built on the lines of formula 1 racing, the formula student project has translated to the defianz car which has won accolades abroad and consistently improved in terms of design and performance delivery over the past 6 years. In fact this was the earliest team to be formed. And with the heritage that the team possesses, the team strives to add“that extra kmph to the top speed’and subtract‘that extra second’ from 0-100 acceleration while sticking to ‘that ultra specific formula rule book’. This year’s design changes include major weight reductions, achieved through revised chassis design, integrated parts in the suspension and using a smaller lighter 450cc engine against last year’s 600. Aggressive weight - cut is achieved by using high strength to weight composites like carbon fiber to the exhaust muffler.

The suspension employs double wishbone mechanism(common to F1 and most supercars) to provide knife edged handling. With technology of race pedigree expect a quicker and more nimble hyper-sports weekend racer! The team will be participating in FSAE international competition to be held in Silverstone F1 circuit UK. This was news from people who go bonkers by the word ‘horsepower’!

Seminar on Information Security under ISEA

Two days national seminar on Information Security was organized on 02 and 03 February, 2009, at Delhi College of Engineering, Delhi. The training was conducted by Department of Information Technology, DCE. Lectures by invited speakers from industry and academia with long standing experience on the subject were arranged The main objective of the seminar was the quick review of building blocks such as OS, networks, crypto systems, security standards, security policies, public key infrastructures. Understanding different software threats, or malicious programs, we study Firewall design principles to build perimeter protection from threats and attacks.

Innovation @ DCE

In an amazing feat, five third year electrical department students, under the guidance of Prof. R.K.Sihna, have designed a cheaper “solar lantern”. The current cost stands at less than RS 1000 and research is being done to further minimize the cost. Its charging time is less than 3 hours and on full solar charge it efficiently provides a backup of 6-8 hours. The aim is to install these lanterns in each hostel room after completely analyzing its efficiency.

Hacking @ DCE

A gargantuan event took place on 12th of Feb, 2009 in the expo hall on today’s most exited topic, ethical hacking. The event was organized by Prince Jain, a first year student from DCE and the workshop was conducted by some MAIT students. The event was under the banner of IEEE, DCE and turned out to be a great one. Students from different colleges came up to attend the workshop. The workshop focused on new methods on hacking and network security.
