UST- A Legitimate Concept - the new way ahead.

An  initiative  taken  by our respected director  Prof. P. B. Sharma  has provided  an  ignition to the notion  of  transforming D e l h i college  of engineering into      university     of science  & technology. The    proposal     has received    a    mixed response  among  the government      circles with  lobbying  both in favour and against the proposal.    An    idea considered revolutionary considering that it has been on the back burner for years now can  transform the face of DCE  into  a hub  of research ,science and technopreneurship.ust

UST  shall  create  the  much needed    environment    for  Seamlessness      between  science and engineering and  promote      inter-disciplinary engineering   and  provide a boost to India’s Technopreneurship  capabilities.   The   UST campus shall gravitate with the excitement   of   Science   and thrill of  engineering  attracting the best  talent  in  the  faculty and in the student community.

India’s   technical     education system has remained  largely  devoid  of  synergy between science and engineering.  The  problem  is  further  compounded  due to rapid growth along UG education in engineering, creating a void for scientific research and innovations.    Compared    to    this,  the  international  scenario  has witnessed the rise of world  class  institutions  in  great  numbers  in  the developed economy. The  DPR of the UST has mapped the strengths and opportunities created by the UST’s such as MIT, ... Stanford, Georgia tech, Carnegie Mellon, NUS and NTU of Singapore, Imperial College London and Universities of S&T in France and Switzerland.

DID YOU KNOW??
 India  spends  currently  less  than  1%  of  its  GDP  on  R&D  as  against 4-6% in    US, China and Japan.
 The Manpower base of scientist and engineers in India is 1/100th of US and 1/50th    of Korea as per total population. It is 1/3rd that of China.
 This also reflects in India’s much lower share of global scientific output, estimated    as 1.58% in 1998 (Govt. of India Planning Commission Report 2006).
 A possible reason is lack of synergy between science and engineering and poor    industry relevance.

Placements Unruffled by Recession.

placements
Even when the entire world facing an economic slump and  global recruitments are declining, the placements   at   the   premier    institutes     like Delhi  College  of  Engineering  are  unperturbed.  The  ongoing  recession  however  as lead to a scarcity  of  jobs  in the corporate world but the workforce  demand  has  not  been  vandalised absolutely.  Thus making them go for the premier institutes instead of the indecorous ones.

placementsAt DCE,   the   placements   begin  by  April and continue  till   May  in  the  following  year.    Till December 2008,DCE has recorded stupendous placements with packages   as high as 13 lacs. About 435 students have been  placed so  far  which include 70 multiple recruitments .Reputed PSU's like IOCL, NTPC, HPCL, BHEL and many others  have already picked various students from our campus.   Many  more  recruiters  are  yet  to  visit  the campus in the ongoing academic  session and further boost up  in  the  placements  is  expected.  Statistics provided  in  the  histogram  themselves show that the  placements  have  not  been  dampened  by  recession. The average  package  of  all  ranches  is  rising each year.  Thus   the   statistics  themselves  speak  for  the legacy that DCE possesses.
