Release of 1st Prospectus of Delhi Technological Unvoversity (formely Delhi College of Engineering) by Smt. Sheila Dixit, Honourable Chief Minister, Delhi

From the Desk of Vice-Chancellor, DTU

Marching from strength to strength, Delhi College of Engineering, DCE is now the “Delhi Technological University”. The historic decision to upgrade DCE into DTU has been taken by the Government of Delhi and an Act to this effect has been enacted by the Delhi Vidhan Sabha. The upgradation of DCE into a technical university provides the necessary academic and administration autonomy to empower DCE to march on the path of academic and research excellence, as also to accelerate the pace of innovations. The conferment of the status of a technological University upon DCE is a major opportunity for all of us in meeting the requirement of skilled brainpower in the New Knowledge Age. DTU, with the brand image of DCE and its glorious past, thus is poised to create new pathways of engineering education and research excellence as also to cause innovations infinite on the strength of its highly talented student community and qualified faculty.
The pathways of excellence for DTU have begun to emerge as is evident from the faith being reposed by the industry and the society in our activities, programs, research and innovations. In a short period of just two months from the commencement of the DTU Act we have been able to innovate the curriculum of our new programs of B. Tech and M. Tech, make admissions strictly on the principle of merit, succeeded in providing smart classrooms to our student community as also to support the growth of quality research and innovations. This has attracted the very best in the world. Lockheed Martin to tie up with DTU for research program on the development of Unmanned Aircraft System. The Hybrid Car Project is being supported by Indian Oil and Maruti Udyog Ltd. while Freescale, TCS and WIPRO have been roped in for faculty development initiatives. The DTU has also entered into an MoU with GEM, the Group Ecole Des Mines D’Albi, France, a group of seven premier institutions focused on world quality education and research in frontal areas of Applied Sciences and Technology. This will facilitate student and faculty exchange besides collaborative research in areas of mutual interest. As a part of our vision to foster synergy between Science and Engineering, we have added a new B. Tech Program in Engineering Physics this year and also interdisciplinary engineering Master’s Program in Nano-Science and Technology, Microwave and Optical Communication and VLSI Design and Embedded Systems. This is the beginning of our commitment to create the Power of Science and the Might of Technology together within our technology university campus. A lot more shall follow to enrich our university with the cutting edge research programs in interdisciplinary engineering pursued in close cooperation and collaboration with our science departments.
The Delhi School of Management under the Delhi Technological University has made its mark by floating the MBA program this year in the areas of concentrations such as Knowledge and Technology Management, Information System Management and Supply Chain Management. It would be our endeavour to ensure that while the competencies and caliber of 21st century management and leadership are embedded in the MBA Graduates
of DTU, the technology temper is further strengthened so that the DTU, Delhi School of Management succeeds in providing the Managers of Knowledge, Managers of Innovation, Managers of Technology and Techno-entrepreneurship akin to 21st century. In this quest, we wish to make the MBA program highly industry oriented and highly focused on the management of 21st century enterprises.
Let me close on a happy note that the DTU in partnership with UNESCO is embarking upon the establishment of a centre for Water Technology and Water Management. This centre shall serve the cause of low cost water recycling technologies besides strengthening the cost of water conservation and water security so vital for the survival of mankind on planet, mother Earth. Our Green Energy Technology Research program is aligned to meet the challenge of Climate Change Management and our thrust area R&D in New and Smart Materials and Broadband Over Power Lines is already providing the cutting edge technologies for tomorrow’s engineering. Well you would witness a lot in this respect rolling out of DTU in the coming months and years. The DTU Times being brought out by the student team comprising of Abhishek Bindal, Anand Meena and Abhishek Kanojia deserves our praise for putting together the happenings in DTU for the benefit of the DTU community and for the benefit of our stakeholders namely the industry and the research collaborators.
